Close to 5,000 education institutions, faculties, government agencies and professional organisations around the world recognise IELTS scores as a trusted and valid indicator of ability to communicate in English.<o:p></o:p></span><span style="font-family: Georgia">More than 700,000 people a year take the IELTS. The test is taken every year across 120 countries, and is one of the fastest growing English language tests in the world, and sets the standard in integrity, research and innovation.<o:p></o:p></span><span style="color: black; font-family: Georgia">IELTS help universities and colleges select students with sufficient English skills to succeed in their courses.  Depending upon the course of study, students must elect to sit either the <strong><span style="font-family: Georgia">Academic</span></strong> IELTS test or the <strong><span style="font-family: Georgia">General</span></strong> Training IELTS test. The Academic IELTS test is normally necessary for students who plan to study at university level courses. The General Training IELTS test is generally required by other institutions, such as colleges and high schools, for courses that require less complex language skills, and is also as a general test of English proficiency for immigration purposes in </span><st1:country-region><st1:place><span style="color: black; font-family: Georgia">Australia</span></st1:place></st1:country-region><span style="color: black; font-family: Georgia">, </span><st1:country-region><st1:place><span style="color: black; font-family: Georgia">Canada</span></st1:place></st1:country-region><span style="color: black; font-family: Georgia"> and </span><st1:country-region><st1:place><span style="color: black; font-family: Georgia">New Zealand</span></st1:place></st1:country-region><span style="color: black; font-family: Georgia">.</span><span style="color: black; font-family: Georgia"></span></p>

There are four sub-tests, or modules, to the IELTS test: </span><st1:city><st1:place><strong><span style="color: black; font-family: Georgia">Reading</span></strong></st1:place></st1:city><strong><span style="color: black; font-family: Georgia">, Writing, Listening and Speaking</span></strong><span style="color: black; font-family: Georgia">. Students must sit all four sub-tests. Texts are taken from books, magazines, newspapers and journals. All written for a non-specialist audience. At least one of the texts contains a detailed argument. <span>                                                    </span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia"><span></span><o:p></o:p></span><strong><u><span style="font-family: Georgia">General Training</span></u></strong><span style="font-family: Georgia">: The texts are based on the type of material candidates would be expected to encounter on a daily basis in an English-speaking country, and test the candidate’s ability to under and use information. The test includes on longer text, which is descriptive rather than argumentative. <span> </span><o:p></o:p></span></li>
